ICC are thrilled to bring to market this stunning 2004 Ducati 998 S Final Edition with only a mere 2840 miles on the clock.
After the introduction of the 999 model, Ducati introduced the 998 Final Edition model to cater for those who preferred the iconic 916 design. It was only available to special order. Unlike some export markets which received the 120bhp engine, UK bikes were equipped with the Testaretta 136bhp unit from the 996R. Though not confirmed, it is reported that 981 examples of the 998 Final Edition were produced (419 biposto and 562 monoposto examples). They are identified by a distinctive ‘Final Edition’ plaque on the triple clamp, and the number of 998 victories listed on the fuel tank together with the Italian Tricolore on the rear fairing.
This 998 Final Edition is finished in its original Ducati Red hue over a black seat. It features a ‘Testaretta’ 998cc twin cylinder DOHC engine producing 136bhp at 10,200rpm, an Öhlins fully adjustable front fork and steering damper, an Öhlins adjustable rear shock absorber, and a Corse extended crankcase sump for improved engine lubrication. The brakes are 4-pot Brembo items and the wheels are by Marchesini. The bikes were not production numbered, but can still be identified their ‘Final Edition’ plaque on the top of the triple clamp, the Italian flag or ‘tricolore’ colours on the with the phrase ‘Ducati Campione del Mondo’ or Ducati World Champion, and also a distinguishing transfer on the fuel tank which shows the number of Ducati 998 victories achieved – an impressive eight championships and 115 race wins.
The motorcycle will be accompanied by its original documents, including the service book and a selection of invoices detailing the four services carried out to the bike, original sales brochures.
This 998 FE’s most recent maintenance was carried out in February 2021 at 2,839 miles by Ducati specialist Iain Rhodes of RPM Bikes in Northampton. This comprised of an engine oil and filter change, along with the replacement of the cam belt, brake and clutch fluid, coolant, fork seals and oil, spark plugs, chain, and tyres. The invoice for this work totalled £2,540 and is supplied with the bike. Prior to this, the bike was serviced in February 2007 and August 2005 by the supplying dealer St Neots Motorcycles.
A thrilling low mileage limited-edition sports bike with the performance and pedigree of a true racer, this Ducati 998 Final Edition is potent, agile, and thoroughly engaging. Having been used sparingly but maintained to a very high standard during its lifetime, this example is ready to be ridden as intended, and would make a superb addition to any collection.
